Steps to Eliminating the Gender Pay Gap

There have been calls for men and women to get paid equally for doing the same work. Indeed, how much you get for the work you do should not be based on whether you are a woman or a man. Instead, it should be based on how much work you have been able to contribute to the organization. Sadly, this is still extremely far from what the reality is. However, everybody must correct the situation from their own end if we are to see an end to this bad trend.

Embrace transparency in your salary scheme. Even when we may still be far from having every company making their staff salaries public as Buffer and Starbucks did, you can still employ a more transparent method in how you pay your workers their salaries. Make their remuneration known based on how much they contribute or their level in the organization. This shows your employees that you value their work regardless of their gender.

Increase awareness. The gender pay gap is more prominent in some areas or countries more than others depending on how much awareness is going on in the country or sector. Increasing awareness help everybody become aware of their rights and the bottom line below, which they should never consider.

Promote good work. You want all employees to give their all for the organization. One way of ensuring this is to encourage and praise those who do well with their tasks. This way, they understand their worth and realize they do not have to perform less because of their gender.
